Although a lot of iPhone fans have changed their phone to the latest iPhone 5 with iOS 6.1, there are still a big group of people who are using previous iPhone models. For those who are wondering how to install Cydia on iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S manually, here are a few delicious steps to do it. Do not worry, they are not as hard as what you think.

Step 1: Prepare a computer. It can be a Mac or Windows. Download and install any SFTP program into it. For Windows OS, WinSCP, CoreFTP LE, Swish (SFTP from Windows Explorer), FireFTP, Filezilla, BitKinex, and PSCP and PSFTP (from PuTTY) are highly recommended because they are free and stable. For Mac users, Cyberduck seems to be the most popular to be used. Once a SFTP program is installed, launch it!

Step 2: Now you will need to jailbreak your iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S. A few highly rated jailbreak software are RedSn0w, iJailBreakTool, Apple Unlocker, Jailbreak Unlock, and Greenpois0n. Download any of these software and follow the steps to jailbreak your iPhone. Note: There are hundreds of YouTube video tutorials about installing Cydia without jailbreak, it is IMPOSSIBLE for now and it is not recommended to follow any of them. In other words, it is a MUST to jailbreak your iPhone before continue to step 3 to install Cydia on it.

Step 3: Go to apt.saurik.com/cydia/debs/ and download the latest DEB file. Save the file into any location of your computer. Connect your iPhone to your computer with a USB cable and click on the “test connection” buttons in your SFTP program. Once both the devices are connected, you are ready to go.

Step 4: SSH the Cydia DEB File you downloaded in Step 3 to your iPhone. The path has to be /private/var/mobile/documents/. The installation will be failed if the path is incorrect. Access your iPhone to the same path and you should be able to see the DEB file. Tap on it and tap “Installer”. Ignore the “Zip Viewer” and “Unarchiver”. Cydia will then install to your iPhone automatically in few minutes. Tap on the blue “Done” button once it is ended.

Step 5: Reboot your iPhone and the brown Cydia logo will be appeared in your device.

Even though this tutorial is particularly created for iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, it works well for iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone 5, and other iOS versions. You are welcome to leave a comment at the comment box below if it is not working or you need help with your Cydia installation.
